First Birthday @ Freestone Park in Gilbert

Sweet Melody recently came back for her 1 year old portrait session. I first met Melody almost a year ago at just a few days new for her newborn portrait session. I love seeing my little clients grow and change during their first year. It is such a joy to be able to document these milestones for their families. Miss Melody is a sweet girl with the beautiful bright blue eyes and an independent attitude!

what to wear | phoenix photographer

Here is a excellent example of What to Wear at your next photo session. The most important thing as always is to be you. If you want to splurge on a new outfit great! If you want to dress up what you already have with a few accessories that is great too.

Dressing and entire family; start with one person and build and outfit. Than take a color from that outfit and build and outfit for the next person. Textures and accessories like hats, scarves and your pet are always a plus.

As always is you have questions I will be happy to help with the selection process.

bff high school senior sessions

You, your bestie and wardrobe changes, what could be better?

Everything is better when shared with your best friend, so why should your senior portraits be any different? That’s why Rhedboa Photography is offering the “BFF Session” for a limited time. Why would it be a good idea to do a session with your best friend? Here are a few awesome reasons.

  • You have your biggest fan cheering you on. It’s just more comfortable to have your BFF around. Let’s face it, the first ten to fifteen minutes of any photography session can be awkward. It’s hard to totally relax and get in modeling mode, but with your best friend around to help calm your nerves, crack a joke, or remind you how beautiful you truly are, things just feel more natural.
  • You have your personal stylist at hand. Not sure what to wear? Having your BFF there to help advise in your wardrobe selection is a huge plus. She can give you that extra confidence you need to rock those red heels or wear that amazing dress.
  • She’ll actually save you money. Since you’re taking your senior portraits during the same two hour session, you’ll be saving big on your session fee. Instead of paying the $100 fee on your own, you’ll split it, so you’ll both be saving $25! (The BFF session has ones session fee, but the digital packages will be ordered separately. Each girl or guy will have their own individual gallery of 20-25 images to select their pictures from).
  • It will be an experience you both will remember for years to come. Taking your senior portraits is a big deal. They represent who you are your final year in high school before you embark on one of the biggest journeys of your life. Sharing it with your best friend just makes it that more memorable.

The BFF session will only be offered for a limited time, so be sure to contact the me to get your date on the calendar!

three tips for getting the most out of your new camera

Woot! You got that new camera you wanted for Christmas … now what?

The excitement of the new camera wears off when you realize that it has so many new buttons and features you don’t know where to begin figuring out how to use it. Here are three tips that will help you get on your way!

1. READ THE MANUAL

I know that is not what you wanted to hear but it really is the best way to get to know your camera. That does not mean sit down treat it like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (great book, I highly recommend!), but you do need to read it. You only need an hour with the book and camera. Read through the book and locate the buttons and settings as you go. You are not going to remember everything and you don’t need to. Some settings you may never use but it’s good to be familiar with everything at least once. You don’t want to find out years later that your camera could do tricks but you never knew how to take off the training wheels.

2. HOLD THE CAMERA PROPERLY

There is a right way and a wrong way to hold a camera. Holding the camera properly is extremely important because no matter how good your picture is if it is blurry, it won’t matter.

POINT AND SHOOT

Best thing to do is use two hands and keep your elbows tucked in so your body can help keep your arms steady. The right hand should grip the camera so you pointer finger is on the shutter button. Your left hand should be used to steady the camera.  Make sure you keep holding steady until the image is displayed to be sure the image is ok. If you use the red eye setting, there are two flashes and if you move after the first flash than your picture will be ruined. Does you camera have a red eye setting… see tip 1 to find out!

DSLR

Use your right hand to grip the right side of the camera. Most DSLRs have groves to let you know where your fingers should go. The left hand is used to support the lense between your thumb and pointer finger. This allows you to control the zoom with the left hand and access all the controls with the right hand. Your elbows should be tucked in to your sides to help create stability.

3. SQUEEZE GENTLY

Now that you have read the manual and are properly holding your camera your ready to take amazing pictures. When pressing the shutter button, squeeze don’t jab. If you jab the button the camera will move and the image will be blurry. Most new cameras have anti shake features but chances are your kids will be moving while you are balancing on one leg trying to get the shot so you want to give your self the best chance to get the picture. Most precious moments don’t get a do over so don’t rely solely on the anti-shake feature.

These three tips should get you well on your way to becoming a momtographer. Become a fan on Facebook for new tips!
