Here is a excellent example of What to Wear at your next photo session. The most important thing as always is to be you. If you want to splurge on a new outfit great! If you want to dress up what you already have with a few accessories that is great too.
Dressing and entire family; start with one person and build and outfit. Than take a color from that outfit and build and outfit for the next person. Textures and accessories like hats, scarves and your pet are always a plus.
